Conner's Senior Session Experience

This month, TLH Photography & Design is featuring some of our 2024 sessions. On the blog this morning is our Senior Session Experience with Conner.

For those of you who have never had a Senior Session with TLH Photography & Design, there is a lot of planning that happens behind the scenes. We send out a questionnaire a few days after your session is booked that helps the planning process on both sides. We want to have a flow to the session, capture all the details that mean the most to you, and have FUN! The Senior Sessions are 2.5 to 3 hours in length, with up to 5 outfit changes to give your images variety.

A couple weeks leading up to the session, we finalize all the details, from location, time, and everything in between. When we received Conner’s questionnaire, we were blown away with some of the items that he wanted included in the session. With a limited amount of time, we weren’t sure if we would be able to fit everything Conner and his mom wanted in the session.

Some of the items to include: a few images with mom and dad, Conner’s truck, mom’s car, and Conner’s dirt bike. Where was our location you ask? It was at Mount Charleston, well a little further up.

We met before driving all the way up, Conner leading the way. We stopped at one location, which ended up being too windy for us to do the session. We changed our plans and kept going up to the spot we captured the session.

One thing we love to do during a session, especially for Seniors, is ask their opinion on what images they are looking for. With Mount Charleston, there are so many beautiful areas and the scenery is gorgeous, even in December. Conner wanted some of the images to include the background. When it comes to sessions, there are three ways we photograph them. The first is the way mom wants the images (up close, more of the smiles), the second is the way the senior wants the images (background, further away), and third, the photographers choice (mix of the two and portfolio style).

The session was going great, it was a bit cold up there, but we were making it work. We went through all the ones of him in his first outfit, the family portion, then it was time to bring out the dirt bike. We had found a great spot that was open for the background to give Conner what he wanted.

Then it was time for mom’s car. We had her park in a spot that was on the side of the road so there were less cars around. We were bumped up next to a van taking images and it worked perfectly. Finally it was the last outfit and truck images! We were in the home stretch, or so we thought. We were 20 pictures in to the truck images and the Ranger showed up. We kept going with the session as the Ranger made their way to where we were.

Needless to say, we learned a very valuable lesson that day. No tickets were given, however, if you as a business owner are going to photograph at Mount Charleston, be honest and upfront with the Rangers if they ask you questions. If you don’t have a permit, which we didn’t as we didn’t know the rules up there, make sure to get one before doing your session. These are lessons learned as a business owner.

During the Premiere Ordering Session, Conner made his selection for the 11x14 Metal Print and it turned out amazing. Thank you to Conner, mom and dad for choosing TLH Photography & Design to capture his Senior Session Experience! We wish you all the best as you move forward with your dreams of being a Fireman!
